To give you some context to our love I have to go back a month and explain when we first met.
And I should also tell you Oklahoma is a car. A 1989 Mitsubishi Lancer and I love her.

I realised four weeks ago that I would really need to get my own vehicle to get exploring New Zealand. I was in the Coromandel, in the North of the North Island, and at the time fortune had it that my cousin's friend's were selling their beauty (the Lancer). She is the same age as me. You do the maths. Also my birthday is May 19th. However she'd only ever driven 200k before and her longest journey to date was from the Coromandel to Whangarei. Now I'm taking her all the way from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island.
I got her for a good price ($1000). My plan is to sell her on at the end of my trip. I hope she makes it all the way down to Dunedin/Invercarghill. If so I'll sell her. If not... Well I'm thankful how far she's taken me already. Met some German lasses who had rented a car for 30 days for $1500. Oklahoma has now made it past that milestone and cost $500 less, good Oklahoma, good. With love and attention and no more driving over trees (that story will probably never make it on here in full) she'll get me right to the bottom of the South Island.
As I've mentioned in my previous blog post: Highlights of my Aotearoa experience so far Donna, Jonah and I have been right up to Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga), the very North of North Island, Oklahoma took us all there. Then, to thank her we let her have a good look at the Sand Dunes at the top of the 90 Mile Beach. She would have enjoyed the view more if I hadn't been in the way.
Okolahoma and I at the Sand Dunes, they are insanely huge. |
Oaky (that's her nickname) then took us down to Auckland. It was busy and she freaked out. Especially when I freaked out whilst driving her on my own on the motorway with no idea where we actually were.
Oaky then ingested us again and carried us safely in her belly through the lands down to Rotorua. We got to see heaps of cool stuff. The Maori artwork in amazing. Even in MacDonald's.
Carving at gate of Government Gardens
At Kerosene Creek in Rotorua - an amazing warm river! Oaky was further up the River. |
This post is all about my car.
Since Rotorua Donna and I have been up along the coast of the Bay of Plenty and now down to Hastings.
Oaky likes a Premium 96' - I don't think this exists any more. So we feed her 95 and she's not complained yet. She likes a top up of oil now and then. But she's been pretty good so far.
Mam if you're reading this please let Dad know I check the oil regularly and I'm putting some in tomorrow night. And yes, also let Dad know I have a spare full bottle of oil in the boot.
MORE FACTS ABOUT OAKY:
She is an automatic
Her windows are electric (although one is propped up by wooden stakes)
She's a hatchback
She's really cool
She has five doors
She is a car
And finally here is a picture of Oaky almost at the top of Te Mata Peak

What's your car's name and how much do you love her?
Awesome that's the same year I was born as well, and a great one at that! Cool travels from the most gorgeous girl in the world. :)
